Key takeaways
- PBN domain authority is a Moz estimate based on links, not a score search engines use.
- DA can be inflated with spam links, redirects, link loops and dirty expired domains.
- Two sites with the same DA can differ hugely in referring domains, age, history and indexing.
- High DA is worth paying for when it is backed by real signals.
- Our two PBN tiers offer DA 20+ and DA 50+, both on aged auction domains.
PBN domain authority is the number most buyers look at first, and often the only one. That is a problem. Moz DA is a third party estimate of how strong a domain’s link profile looks, not a score search engines use, and it can be pushed up with links that carry no real value.
DA is still useful as a first filter. A PBN site with a high DA and a genuine backlink history is strong. A PBN site with a high DA built on spam is a trap. That is why our Moz DA 50+ PBN links also come with 100+ referring domains, aged auction domains and handwritten content, so the number is backed by something real.
This guide explains why DA alone misleads, how inflated scores happen and what to check alongside it.

What PBN domain authority actually measures
Domain Authority is a score from 1 to 100 that Moz calculates from the links pointing to a domain. It is a prediction of how well a site might rank, based on its link profile, compared with other sites.
Three things are worth knowing about it:
- It is not a search engine metric. Google does not use Moz DA. It is a helpful estimate made by an outside company.
- It is relative and logarithmic. Moving from DA 20 to 30 is far easier than moving from 60 to 70.
- It only sees links. DA says nothing about whether the site is indexed, whether its content is real or whether its history is clean.
So when a seller tells you a PBN has DA 45, they are telling you something about its links as one company sees them. Nothing more.
How DA gets inflated on weak PBN sites

Because DA is calculated from links, anyone who understands the formula can push it up. Cheap sellers do this all the time, and buyers who look only at DA pay for it.
Mass low quality links
Thousands of links from spam pages, automated comments or scraped directories can lift DA without adding any real value. Search engines ignore most of these links or treat them as a negative signal.
Redirect tricks
Some sellers redirect a strong domain to a weak one for a short time to borrow its score, then remove the redirect. The DA number lags behind, so the site looks strong for a while after the trick ends.
Links from other inflated sites
Networks of sites linking to each other in loops can raise each other’s DA together. On paper they all look healthy. In practice, it is a closed circle with no outside trust.
Dropped domains with a dirty past
A domain may have a high DA because it was once a large spam site or was penalized before it expired. The score remembers the links, not the reputation.
DA on paper vs real strength
Here is how two PBN sites with the same DA can be very different underneath.
| Check | Site A: DA 40 | Site B: DA 40 |
|---|---|---|
| Referring domains | 150+ from real sites | 2,000+ from spam pages |
| Domain age | 14 years | Registered last year |
| History | Real business, clean archive | Previously a link farm |
| Indexing | Fully indexed | Partly deindexed |
| Content | Handwritten articles | Spun text |
| Value of a link | Strong | Little to none |
A buyer comparing only the DA column would see two equal offers and probably choose the cheaper one. That cheaper one is almost always Site B.
What to check alongside DA
We judge every domain in our network on the same signals. These matter more than any single score.
- Real referring domains. Not the count alone, but who they are. Links from real businesses, news sites and blogs are worth far more than raw totals.
- Domain age. An auction domain that has existed for 10 or 15 years has a history that new domains cannot fake.
- Clean history. We check archived versions of the site to make sure it was never spam, adult content or a hacked page farm.
- Indexing. If the domain is not indexed, any link on it is close to worthless. This is the fastest check of all.
- Content quality. Every link on our network sits inside a handwritten article, which keeps the page looking and reading like a real site.
You will notice Trust Flow, Citation Flow and Spam Score are not on the list. In our experience they are poor guides, often flagging good domains and missing bad ones. For a deeper look at testing a link after it goes live, see our buyer’s checklist for testing PBN links.
When high PBN domain authority is worth paying for
None of this means DA is useless. When the number is backed by real signals, higher PBN domain authority does tend to mean a stronger link. The key is that it should come with the other checks, not replace them.
Higher DA links are worth it when:
- You are competing for terms where the top results have strong, established link profiles.
- Your page is already well optimized and needs raw power to move from the bottom of page one to the top.
- You want fewer, stronger links rather than many smaller ones, which keeps your profile tidy.
For less competitive terms, local pages or newer sites, a DA 20+ link with a real profile often does the job at a lower cost. That is what our POWERFUL PBN Links That Work are for: Moz DA 20+, 50+ referring domains, packages from $170.
How our two PBN tiers compare
We offer two levels of permanent PBN links so you can match power to the task, instead of paying top price for every page.
- POWERFUL PBN Links That Work: Moz DA 20+, 50+ referring domains, handwritten content, delivery in 7 to 30 days, packages from $170. A good fit for local pages, inner pages and lower competition terms.
- The Strongest PBN Links on the Planet: Moz DA 50+, 100+ referring domains, handwritten content, delivery in 7 to 30 days, packages from $350. Built for money pages and competitive terms where the top results already have strong profiles.
Many clients use both: the stronger tier on the one or two pages that drive revenue, and the DA 20+ tier to support related inner pages that pass internal link value back to them.
Both tiers are built on aged auction domains with real backlink history, drawn from our network of 10,000+ PBN sites. The difference is how much authority each link carries.
FAQ
Why do DA numbers change after we buy a link?
Moz updates its index regularly, and scores across the web shift with each update. A small rise or drop in a host site’s DA after an update is normal and does not mean the link changed in value.
Is DR a better metric than DA for PBNs?
DR is another link based estimate with the same basic limits. Neither replaces checking real referring domains, age, history and indexing.
Can we see the PBN sites before ordering?
We do not share PBN live URLs, so the network stays private and safe for every client. The standards for each tier are stated clearly instead.
