Key takeaways
- Yes, PBN links still work in 2026 when they come from aged domains with real backlink history, relevant handwritten content and no shared footprints.
- In our latest tracked client order (August to September 2026), one keyword went from #75 to #3 in six days, and the number of keywords ranking #1 rose from 35 to 62 within four weeks.
- Quality decides everything. Links from a strong, private, well-built network move rankings. Cheap public networks don’t.
- Keep exact-match anchors under 10%, build at a steady monthly pace and mix PBN links with guest posts and niche edits.
Backlinks are still one of the strongest signals Google uses to decide which pages deserve to rank. The hard part is getting them. Outreach takes months, reply rates are low and you rarely control the anchor text or the page your link lands on.
That’s why private blog network (PBN) links are still used by agencies, affiliate site owners and local SEOs, even though they’re rarely discussed in public. We’ve built and sold PBN links since 2012, so this guide covers what actually works in 2026, how to use PBN links the right way, and how to tell a good PBN link from a bad one.
What is a PBN link?

A private blog network is a group of websites built on expired or auction domains that already have backlinks, age and trust from their previous life. Each site publishes articles, and some of those articles link to the sites you want to rank. The link passes authority from the aged domain to your page.
Compared with other link types, PBN links give you more control and speed:
| Factor | PBN links | Guest posts | Niche edits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anchor text control | Full | Partial (editor decides) | Partial |
| Speed to go live | Days | Weeks | Days to weeks |
| Topical relevance | Chosen per order | Depends on the site | Depends on the article |
| Cost per link | Lowest | Higher (real publications) | Mid to high |
| Real site traffic | Not the goal (built for authority) | Usually yes | Usually yes |
| Best for | Pushing target pages fast | Brand reach and real traffic | Relevance from aged, indexed pages |
The best link profiles use all three. PBN links give you control and power; guest posts and niche edits add links from sites with real traffic.
Do PBN links still work in 2026?
Yes. Here’s what we see in our own client data:
- August to September 2026: a US local service business ordered 200 of our PBN links. 54 of its 200 tracked keywords improved, 21 now rank #1, and one city keyword went from #75 to #3 in six days. Read the full case study with every graph.
- Spring 2025: three Google Canada keywords for another client moved from the #13 to #47 range to #1 and #2 between March and May 2025 (graphs below).
- Winter 2023 to 2024: keywords went from #26 to #2 and #41 to #2 and held those positions for months. See our 2024 PBN tests.
The reasons they still work are simple:
- Links still carry weight. An aged domain with clean, real backlinks passes authority to the pages it links to.
- You control the variables. Anchor text, target page, timing and topic are all yours to choose.
- Speed matters in competitive niches. Waiting six months for natural links while competitors keep building is not a strategy.
Are PBN links risky?
Only when they’re low quality. Google is good at spotting cheap, public networks with shared hosting, thin content and spammy domains, and links from those simply stop counting. A private network built on strong aged domains, with real content and no footprints, looks and behaves like a set of independent websites. That’s why quality PBN links keep working year after year.
What separates a PBN link that works from one that gets ignored
| Works | Gets ignored or causes trouble |
|---|---|
| Aged auction domains with clean, relevant backlink history | Cheap expired domains with spammy or foreign-language history |
| Unique hosting, IPs, themes and site structure | Many sites on one host, IP or theme |
| Handwritten, relevant articles around the link | Spun or thin AI content |
| A capped number of outbound links per site | Sites that link out to hundreds of unrelated businesses |
| Private network, never listed publicly | Public “site lists” anyone can see |
| Links indexed fast | Links sitting unindexed for months |
How to use PBN links safely
- Keep exact-match anchor text under 10%. Use your brand name, naked URLs, generic anchors (“visit website”) and partial matches for the rest.
- Keep the links coming. A big first order is fine: our 200-link case study took 21 keywords to #1. What stalls results is building once and then stopping, so follow up with a steady flow every month.
- Blend link types. Add guest posts and niche edits so your profile doesn’t rely on one source.
- Fix the page first. Links amplify good pages. Make sure the target page has helpful content, clear headings, fast loading and internal links from related pages.
- Track daily. Watch rankings in a rank tracker so you know which pages respond and where to build next.
How many links you need depends on the competition. In low-competition local searches, 10 to 20 good links can move a page. In competitive national niches, it can take a monthly campaign over several months.
When PBN links work best
- New sites that need traction faster than outreach can deliver
- Pages stuck on page 2 that need a controlled push
- Local service businesses ranking city pages
- Agencies that need predictable results for clients
- Affiliate and competitive commercial niches
The one thing PBN links can’t do is rescue a page with nothing worth ranking. Get the page right first, then let the links push it up.
Red flags when buying PBN links
- The seller shows a public list of their sites (so can Google)
- Prices far below the cost of a real aged domain and hosting
- No proof of results or no reviews from real buyers
- No information about content, hosting or indexing
How we build our PBN network
Every site in our network is built on an aged auction domain with a clean backlink history, hosted separately, and set up like a real blog with its own design and content. Our in-house team writes each article by hand, places one relevant link per post and keeps outbound links low. We monitor and maintain the network full-time, and we use private indexing methods so links are picked up quickly. For one recent client order, the team wrote and published 200 links within 24 hours.

FAQ
Are PBN links safe?
Quality PBN links from a private, well-built network are safe to use and have been part of professional SEO for years. Problems almost always come from cheap public networks, spammy domains and over-optimised anchor text.
How long do PBN links take to work?
It can take anywhere from one week to three months. Link velocity matters, and your site’s overall fundamentals and other factors also come into play. In our September 2026 case study, the first ranking shift appeared within a week of the links going live.
How many PBN links do I need?
It depends on the competition. Check how many referring domains the top-ranking pages have and plan to close the gap with a strong first order and a steady flow every month after it.
Can PBN links get my site penalised?
Not when they’re built properly. Trouble comes from obvious footprints, public networks and very aggressive exact-match anchors. Use quality links, keep anchors natural and build at a steady pace.
Do PBN links need to be indexed?
Yes. A link Google hasn’t crawled can’t pass any value. We use private indexing methods so links are picked up quickly.
